Sangeeta Mahapatra is the executive editor of a national business magazine. She has a doctoral degree in International Relations and has previously worked as a research fellow, specializing in Terrorism Studies. She is currently based in Kolkata, India, working on a book on the counter-terrorism strategies of India, Israel, and the United States of America. In 1999, her first book of short stories, Miasma, was published by Chowringhee Prakashini Press, Kolkata. Wreath and Other Stories is her second collection of short stories.

Wreath and Other Stories will take you into the world that is slightly off its hinges - a bizarre, eerie realm. In short, a world much like our own, if only we would notice it.

With grey characters, a creeping sense of dread, and a twist at the end, it will ensure that you go to bed satisfied, having had your fill of a world of wickedness and terror... until that world engulfs you in your dreams. This book will enthrall lovers of horror and suspense.

"Please, please, don't do this. Don't do this to me again. Let me go," she pleaded. Wreath and Other Stories is one of those books whose lines are scripted in your mind and the characters come to life in your dreams.

It is one of the best thrilling, electrifying and action-packed collections of short stories which I ever read. There are 10 short stories in the book but believe me, it is more than enough to raise your hairs.

Out of 10 short stories, my top 5 favorites are:

1. Deja Vu 2. The Wait 3. Red Moon 4. Artistic Spirit 5. Wreath

When you come back home after a hard working day and read this book, you will get caught in the suspense of each story. I read most of the book in the mid-night and it really left me with no words and only silence.

The author forces you to predict the outcome of each story till the very last para where the truth is revealed and the mystery is solved. The author's way of writing is very amazing, it feels like as if she is having a tight grip on your hands and is asking you not to stop until the very last page.

The characterization is at the top level with each character described amazingly without boring the reader. The language used in the book is also simple and easy to understand.

My favorite character in the book was of Radhika from the story "Deja Vu". This story is one of the longest stories in the book and I was totally amazed from the final ending.

The author has dedicated this book to her mother, Sabita Mahapatra who has inspired her to write and is not the inspiration behind her stories. One of my best friend who hails from Kolkata used to tell me many haunted and thrilling stories of Kolkata. Now I agree with his fact, that the Best Thrillers are inspired from Kolkata.

Overall I think Wreath and Other Stories is an amazing read and it is one of those books which you can read again and again until and unless each story becomes your favorite one. If you are a big thriller fan just like me then go ahead and BUY this book now. You are sure going to love it. On a personal note, I think this book is worth winning the Best Thriller Book of the Year Award at 3rd annual SALISMANIA.com Awards.

I would also love to read the next book from the author which is based on the counter-terrorism strategies of India, Israel, and the United States of America.
