"My prime target is to make my story more and more realistic" - Utkarsh Srivastava

Utkarsh Srivastava is the author of the Rankshetram series.

Q. Characterize yourself in one word?

A passionate guy devoted to his work.

Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.

Rankshetram part -1, is the beginning of Rankshetram series which narrates the tale of the 5 days war among humans, demons, and nagas, centuries before the battle of Mahabharat. And the upcoming parts will narrate the tale of fall of the demon’s race and the rise of Bharatvanshis.

Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?

Actually, it started 6 years ago, I had a story in my mind. After board exams of class 10th, I started to pen down the thoughts in my mind, and within two months I completed 1st part of my book, but I was not satisfied with its language. In class 11th, I saw one book in the school library. ‘Mrityunjay’ by ‘Shivaji Sawant’, It was the life journey of ‘Suryaputra Karna’. I was a fan of this character since childhood, heard a lot of things about him from my grandfather in law. It was the first novel which I read, reading that novel I realized that my language and writing style was too poor. But it was very difficult to write the same story once again, I started working on the 2nd part and completed it till the end of 2010. But it was a huge difference between the language style of both the books, thereafter I left it like that only, as the pressure of my academics bounded me. I want to write, but it was very difficult to get the time because the pressure of academics and preparation for Engineering examination never let me restart my work. Finally, in B.tech 2nd year I got the time, therefore I started it all over again. Once again I started writing the story of this series, with new characters and platform. And as a result, the first part of Rankshetram series is available now for the readers.

Q. What has been your biggest achievement?

I have not achieved much in my life, I am still waiting for my biggest achievement.

Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in?

Nothing much, I was just waiting for the appropriate time and chance to restart my work. Earlier, there was a lot of barriers while preparing for Engineering. But after, joining the college, I was not very much involved in sports activities, therefore I got the time in B.tech 2nd year. So I started writing it once again.

Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?

Well at present, I don’t have any platform. I have a plan in the month of January to shoot two or three videos, and also I have to attend two book fairs in Delhi and Kolkata. But currently I can’t do anything to build a platform for the readership, as my semester exams are very near, and I have to work very hard for that because earlier I have spent too much time for my book during this my semester.

Q. Favorite novel?

My favorite novel is ‘Mrityunjay’ by ‘Shivaji Sawant’.

Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?

I am not a mystery man, but I think I am the one, who has written the same story in both the languages, English as well as Hindi, which is very rare. And not only this, regarding all the three parts of this series, I will only write this book in both the languages. Part-1 was firstly released in Hindi, but Part-2 will be released in English first. Because I have started part-2 ‘Return of the Demon Lord-Durbheeksh’ in the English language, and I think it will be completed by April.

Q. What’s next?

Well at present, my preference is Rankshetram series, upcoming parts are ‘Return of the Demon Lord’ and ‘Rise of Bharatvansh’. Now my prime target is to make my story more and more realistic. Q. Future of SALISMANIA.com through your eyes?

I think SALISMANIA.com is a great platform to promote new writers among youth. And I am sure, that this magazine has very bright future in India. Because youth is the base of the development of any country.
