The Withering Banyan Book Review

RATING – 4.5/5

Hyma Goparaju is a management professional based in Hyderabad. She dabbled quite a lot in creative writing while at school and college, which remained dormant for a long time to come until she took the plunge to pen her first novel, ‘The Withering Banyan’. She hopes to write more.

A well-to-do business family, whose members are torn apart by a turbulent father-son relationship shrouded in mistrust, suspicion, and contempt for one another – a result of the vagaries of the son’s mind and its maladies – suffers silently. Well-wishers fear that Badri is suffering from a mental derangement, and is on the brink of wiping away his father, Siveswara’s hard-earned fame and fortune. Unaware of the boundless periphery of its affliction, descendants of the five-generation lineage are confounded with an enigmatic and stigmatizing battle of their lifetime which they have to decode and overcome in order to ensure the well-being of the ensuing generations.

The Withering Banyan is something out of my imagination. Hyma Goparaju is already on the best sellers list already with a bang. There are not just a bunch of characters indeed there are many characters in the novel which plays an important role in the story. The idea of using one chapter past and the other one present is very interesting but it’s not easy to control the flow of the story. Hyma used the combination of Past and Present very beautifully. By reading ‘The Withering Banyan’ your vocabulary will surely enhance. There are many new words in the novel which we normally don’t get to see in the novels. Every scene is explained in detail which makes you feel like watching a movie.

Can a girl change the mindset of the entire family? Who was the reason for the disastrous fall of a well-to-do business family? Read the novel to find the answers. The Withering Banyan is deeply recommended for everyone.
