The Dormant State Book Review

RATING - 4.5/5

AUTHOR: Dibya Satpathy

PUBLISHER: Partridge

Dibya Satpathy belongs to the Eastern Coastal state of Odisha. He is a graduate of the prestigious National Defence Academy and is presently serving with the Indian Armed Forces. Passion for writing drives this soldier close to the pen as he scripts his first novel. His love for his state is eminent from the backdrop of the story that portrays the passive undercurrent of the contemporary times of his native place. The author currently lives in Lucknow with his wife Minoo.

Aniruddh is a non-conforming, spirited, unorthodox young man, bound by the shackles of tradition. Brought up in one of India's poorer states - he experiences first-hand, through his middle-class upbringing, the gruesome realities of governance in the country. His youthful exuberance and provocative circumstances leave him with no option but to take on the system. On entering the murky world of politics, he is forced to confront with evils, which he hadn't bargained for. The events in his life leave his relationships at peril as he lurches along the forlorn lanes of insecurity. His transformation from an honest novice mutineer to a guile political leader brings out the layers in his character. Amidst strained relations, friendships that turn ugly and back-stabbing foes, Aniruddh has to govern a dormant state and win over the masses.

The climax is a gripping tale of sinister moves and counter moves that end up bringing out the devil in him in a moment of self-adjudication.

The Dormant State is one of the best novel based on politics I have ever read. It is thrilling and you can experience the thrill on each and every page of the book. The story begins with a teenager who later on becomes a powerful icon in the politics of the country.

The author has maintained a beautiful flow in the story throughout the book. You won't feel like putting the book side for a single second. The climax part is really gripping and you can expect a nail-biting finish in the end. It's really hard to predict what's coming next.

Everything looked like as if I was experiencing it in my real life. The author who is a soldier in actual life will surely make you experience the mind game that is played in politics through his book. You can expect many twists and turn along with some thrilling real action in the book. It's all about the mind game.

The cover of the book is also very smart but I would suggest the author to use a little bigger font in his next book. Overall, I loved the book and would surely suggest you to read one now. It's a MUST READ!
