INTERVIEW: Q. Characterize yourself in one word? PASSIONATE

Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence. THE PREDICTION – is a story about a little girl Tia who is born with the extraordinary power of predicting the future and how she grapples with her prophecies of the impending calamities which were always derided by others.

Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book? Prior to THE PREDICTION, I have published two novels TO ERR IS HUMAN and A JOURNEY TO REMEMBER. My short story THE UNSAID WORDS has been published in the Anthology FUSION. I was always fascinated with the power of precognition. This fascination made me read up a lot of books and do some research on this topic. Maybe because of my passion for this subject I would attract occasions or people with such powers to me. At various points in my life, I met people who had these powers in varying degrees and who would share their experiences with me. I finally decided to express myself on this subject through THE PREDICTION.

Q. What was the time frame for writing this book? Tell us an interesting detail or two, if applicable. For example, did you finish the first draft after one week? Like I said before the topic on precognition had been always on my mind. So the basic research that is required for writing in a particular genre was ready for me when I decided to write a book on it. In a way, I was already inside the head of Tia and felt as if I am experiencing her encounters first-hand. Creating the character of Tia was a congenial experience. I especially enjoyed writing the scenes when Tia levitates with her power and the impact it has on her friend and another scene when her friend is murdered gave me the goose bumps. Writing the last scene of the novel tore my heart away.

Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in? Perseverance, being consistent and believing in my work has taken me a long way. Once I completed my first manuscript my real challenge began. Not knowing anybody from the literary field I was unaware of the process to go ahead with getting my work published. Searching for the right publishers, contacting them and following up with them relentlessly I pursued my dream and although it would have been easier to give up I persisted for nearly one year and finally succeeded in publishing it. From there on, there was no looking back.

Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership? Facebook has been my platform to connect with my readers, although I do use Instagram, Goodreads, and Twitter occasionally. However, it is on Facebook that I interact with my readers regularly and connect with them with my quotes, poems, and regular updates. It is on Facebook that my readers know about the writer Swarupa.

Q. Favorite novel?

Now that’s a difficult question! I have several favorite authors and fond of many books. To name a few that come to mind – Illusions by Richard Bach, Fountain head by Ayn Rand, Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, works of P G Wodehouse… and the list goes on.

Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know? Basically, I come from a Science background, majoring in Physics. Following which I completed my MBA and Computer Programming. I am also a Packaging Technologist and work with a leading Agro-Chemical Company as a Deputy General Manager - Strategic Sourcing. People are surprised when they know that I work in a technical field that is so obverse with the creative field of books.

Q. What’s next? Well, I have discovered the poet in me! My poem JUST ONE MORE TIME would soon be published in an Anthology WHISPERS OF LOVE -2 with RainDrops Company and another poem I WANDER LIKE A LOST SPIRIT would be published in the Anthology - Poetry, a Bengaluru Poetry Festival. I am also writing short stories and working on my next independent novel.

Q. Future of SALISMANIA.com through your eyes? I think SALISMANIA.com is a venture which would go a long way. With innovative ideas like hosting Awards for writers and poets, they are contributing to this field in a unique way which sets them apart. I take this opportunity to wish SALISMANIA.com all the very best for all their future endeavors and encourage them to keep coming up with more new innovative initiatives.
