"I was unemployed for 6 months and have battled it successfully" - Devika Das


Hailing from the defense background, Devika has lived in a number of places like Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Shillong. She is currently living in Gurugram. She began writing at the naive age of 13 and has continued following her passion till date. Not only is she a music lover and a theater artist, but also a trained Salsa dancer, who abides by the theory of 'Work is Fun'. The Mind Game is Devika's second book and she genuinely hopes that her readers will benefit from her work.


Q. Characterize yourself in one word?


Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.


Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?

I had self-published my book ‘The 7 Vows of Marriage before writing this book.

Q. What has been your biggest achievement?

Teaching children in slum areas of Bangalore.

Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in?

I observed people through the medium of theatre and realized people are somewhat not happy in the truest sense. Thus, it helped me write this book.

Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?

No. I am contacting schools and colleges to talk to the youth and help them share their problems with me. Secondly, I am also mentoring students to explore the art of creative writing which helps them release their emotions. I am also answering questions on Quora related to self-improvement, stress management, and life skills.

I have faced stress when I was unemployed for 6 months and have battled it successfully. I have mentioned those lessons in my book.

Q. What’s next?

I would like to travel in 2017. I already have two manuscripts that are 50% complete but I would like to venture into writing Fiction.
