ABOUT THE BOOK:
Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s films have brought immense joy to generations of film lovers, and a new generation is now being impressed by his works, thanks to the many repeated telecasts on various channels of his classic comedies such as Gol Maal and Chupke Chupke among others.
This book is about the forty-two films that were directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and how his vision of humans is as important as that of his mentor, Bimal Roy. The book is both a fan’s perspective and a complete listing of all the released films of Mukherjee from 1957 till 1998.
Q. Characterize yourself in one word?
Curious Learner (that's two). Better yet "Bibliophile".
Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.
The book Human Cinema is a Filmography of the 42 films directed by the well known and much-loved filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?
A series of email exchanges with some friends resulting in a suggestion that I seem to be knowing the most about his films and that's how the book started. I wrote a short story book also published by Notion Press; this is actually my second book.
Q. What has been your biggest achievement?
People who know his films and are themselves published authors have appreciated some of the in-depth knowledge in each chapter.
Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in?
Persistence - nothing more nothing less.
Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?
No. I was doing most of my promotions through Social Media. I think there is scope to do more; I am thinking of building my own website.
Q. Favorite novel?
Difficult to say as I have a very wide range. However Len Deighton remains a perennial favorite writer and I read his three trilogy Bernard Samson series (1) Game, Set, Match (2) Hook, Line, Sinker (3) Faith, Hope, Charity at least once in a year or two years.
Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
Work as a Business Manager in a German company but my interests are to do with Music, Movies and - surprise - Military History (and of course all history).
Q. Future of SALISMANIA.com through your eyes?
Seems like a good place to promote new authors and of course where authors can hang out.
