INTERVIEW:

Q. Characterize yourself in one word?

Inquisitive

Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.

‘Bouquet – of emotions, feelings, and thoughts’ is a ‘bouquet’ of poems, each based on a unique theme like a flower of different color and fragrance.

Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?

‘Bouquet’ was never on the horizon when I started poetry. It was only a collection of poems that I was building up and used to enjoy doing so. Over a period of time, the collection grew and I began posting them on Facebook and Twitter to share them with the world.

Then, something tragic happened in my life. I lost my Mother to cancer in the beginning of this year, which devastated me emotionally and psychologically. But thanks to my wife, sister, and my Dad, I could come out of this whirlpool of despair and agony which was sucking me deeper and deeper day after day. Once I was back on my feet, I decided to dedicate something to my Late Mom which she always loved me doing. It was nothing but my poetry. So, I had to handpick some of the poems from my collection, do some editing and penned some new poems, and finally, my final manuscript was ready. By the untiring effort of my publisher, Dreamhouse Publication, the book could be eventually published. I dedicated my debut book to my Late Mother and to her unforgettable memories.

Q. What has been your biggest achievement?

Difficult to say because the ‘biggest’ is always comparative and relative with respect to time.

Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in?

I took up poetry with no intention to publish, thereby allowing my mind to go free and remain open to any new idea that used to crop up. I think that was the right thing which helped me maintain diversity in themes of my poems and thus, prepared my work for formal publishing.

Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?

Never! There was a platform in place for me. In fact, there has been nobody among my immediate family members who are into the field of publishing. That’s why I had to put all the effort on my own, starting from searching of publishers, forwarding my manuscripts, patiently waiting for their response etc. etc. Finally, after a search of about 3-4 months, I ran into Dreamhouse Publication, who agreed to take up my poems for publishing.

When my book was getting ready for publishing, I contacted several poets, writers, and reviewers for their analysis and critical feedback about my book which I got them published as a part of my book. Post publishing, I approached a few of the book promotion firms for marketing my book through online and offline mode. In this context, I would like to say that though my publisher was putting his best effort in promotion of the book, I preferred to put my time and effort too for the same as an author via. Social media, word of mouth and through friend circles. I must say, it is really paying off!

Q. Favorite novel?

So far, Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathy

Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?

My debut anthology contains some poems, which are inspired by my dreams and some are based on ideas that popped up while I was in the shower.

Q. What’s next?

Another anthology, which again is going to be multi-themed with some in narrative style, and it is still ‘untitled’.

Q. Future of SALISMANIA.com through your eyes?

Though this is going to be my first engagement with SALISMANIA.com, I am confident that they have a bright future and a promising time ahead of them. All the best for all their upcoming endeavors.
