Q. Characterize yourself in one word?
Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.
Coinman is a modern-day parable laced with pithy wisdom and psychological insight into human nature--a satirical parody of the dynamics of office politics and groupthink.
Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?
Since my early childhood, I have been very fascinated with creative writing. In order to find a challenging writing task, I looked to pick subjects that were very boring otherwise. This book was inspired by someone’s habit of jingling coins in his pocket. What could a more boring topic than this to write an exciting story about? I asked myself and thus Coinman was born.
Q. What was the time frame for writing this book? Tell us an interesting detail or two, if applicable. For example, did you finish the first draft after one week?
The book was primarily written during the years 2003-2007 as something personal. In the year 2015, I wanted to get back to my writing habit and wanted to get this book out to the readers.
Interesting detail: I did not write this book continuously. For weeks I wouldn’t write anything. But then for weeks, on other times, I would write every day.
Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in?
Listening to my heart, and telling the story like I wanted to tell, instead of trying to guess what readers would love.
Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?
I have not done much till now on promoting the book. I would love to explore a platform for the book to reach even more hands.
Q. Favorite novel?
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
I had bought A Tale of Two Cities at the age fourteen from my pocket money and liked it.
Q. What’s next?
I am currently working on 2 books. I would be announcing the next book soon.
Q. Future of SALISMANIA.com through your eyes?
SALISMANIA.com is one of the first ones in India in book promotion service—which is huge because the potential is huge but there aren’t many players. There is an immense opportunity to set the trend and help the authors/ readers.
