ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sonia Sahijwani is a law graduate from faculty of law Delhi University currently working as Assistant Manager (Law) in a central PSU at Chandigarh. She is a commerce graduate who pursuant to a PG in print journalism decided to take the unusual diversion towards the field of law.
Q. Characterize yourself in one word?
Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.
Six short stories related to the legal profession inspired by true incidents witnessed by the author herself.
Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?
The idea for this book emerged while I was doing my internship/training during my law college days under lawyers, firms, and NGOs.
I witnessed some eccentric courtroom dramas and had many other experiences which I started penning down since I felt it would be an interesting read if the stories ever got published. I wrote the first draft of this book many years ago and was currently working on my second novel while I was contacted by my publisher for getting this book out in the literary world.
Q. What has been your biggest achievement?
I feel my biggest achievement is yet to come but as for now, the fact that I fulfilled my dream of becoming an author at the age of 33 is my biggest achievement so far.
Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break-in?
Looking back, I think that what I did right was I never ever gave up on my passion for writing. In our busy schedules and lifestyles, we tend to neglect the very things we used to love at one point of time citing lack of time as an excuse. However, I continued to hone my skill of writing and kept myself associated with writing articles in Hindi, English be it for college magazines, my own blog, for in house magazines of my company, etc. The fact that I also never gave up on my first draft Yours Legally is what helped me break-in.
Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?
I mostly resorted to Social Media as my main tool for marketing my debut book and my second book which has been recently released. Instead of stocking up the books, I and my publisher devised a strategy for selling books via print on demand which worked well for both of us. I strongly feel social media can be used as an effective mechanism to reach out to thousands of readers and make your voice heard. Since its been few months since my debut book got published, I am now doing extensive marketing with the help of my publisher, bloggers, and book promotion companies like salismania.com to reach out further and wider.
Q. Favorite book?
The Eleventh Commandment by Jeffrey Archer remains my favorite book till date.
Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
I come across as a social butterfly but in fact, I share my personal thoughts and feelings with only 1-2 of my closest people. There are a lot of people who don't know about me yet.
