ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sabarna Roy is the author of five books: Random Subterranean Mosaic 2012 – 2018, Pentacles, Frosted Glass, Abyss, and Winter Poems. A civil engineer by profession (he passed out from Jadavpur University in 1988), Roy spends his time on books, music, movies and international television series, when he is not writing or at work in an engineering-manufacturing organization in Kolkata. With no love for pets or gardening (although he loves forests and wildlife) or socializing, and a lot of time for introspection and deep (and not-so-deep!) thinking, Roy’s works reflect his views on the global order and individuals striving to find their place in it. INTERVIEW Q. Characterize yourself in one word?
Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.
It is an unstructured narrative of curated journal entries between 2012 and 2018 that covers opinions, tiny stories, poems, conversations, political critiques and narration of autobiographical and semi-autobiographical anecdotes and in this meandering chaos, there is an underlying soul in the book that deals with an escape from the author’s present and throbbing restlessness to change himself possibly.
Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?
I have published 4 books earlier – Frosted Glass, Pentacles, Abyss and Winter Poems by the same publisher and they are critically acclaimed and commercially successful and in these, the author travelled a path of narrating his world view through story cycles, poem cycles, novella and proscenium play on post-modern urban life.
Q. What has been your biggest achievement?
I am always climbing a mountain whose peak will never be reached.
Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break-in?
Sending my Manuscript to Sunil K Poolani, who was the then Chief Editor of Leadstart Publishing in 2010.
Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?
Every writer will slog for more and more readership in search of appreciation and criticism, both.
Q. Favorite book?
“The Outsider” by Albert Camus.
Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?
I am an atheist and I do not subscribe to any religion, but I am superstitious in matters related to my children.
Q. Future of SALISMANIA.com through your eyes?
