RATING - 4.5/5
AUTHOR: Rajeshwari Chauhan
Blended beautifully, this book is a treat for the lover of history and mystery.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
A freelance writer, artist, and teacher, Rajeshwari Chauhan has contributed as a script and content writer for many creative and promotional literary writings, short movies, and plays. A passionate artist, she loves to create realistic paintings on canvas and walls. For her, painting and creative writing are complementary to each other.
Being from a royal family of Chhota-Udepur, she has always fascinated for history and conservation of heritage.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
When Mrinalini, an art restoration expert, ventures into the ruins of Rang Mahal and the Palace of Samungarh, an accidental discovery of a skeleton and manuscript detailing the exploits of Daniel, a Portuguese artist, opens a window to the forgotten era of grace and grandeur. The blossoming of love between a Mughal Emperor and a Rajput Princess is seen through the eyes of a foreign traveler, who himself falls in love with the Rajput princess.
The plot revolves around Daniel's quest for beauty and passion, the ecstasy, and agony of love. He meets the famous courtesan Mahamaya only to lose her. It also draws a modern day parallel in the life of Mrinalini, a woman who seeks refuge in artistic pursuits and architectural ruins when relationships in life confuse her. Will she be able to decode the clues left behind by Daniel? Will the curse of centuries-old unfulfilled love break into a happy ending for Mrinalini?
Daniel's Diary is a complete dose of history and its charm. Rajeshwari's writing style is simple yet effective. Every page consists of an untold part of history. Page by page you will get engrossed in it and will be unable to ignore it until you finish the book.
The best part of the plot is the connectivity, the link between past and present. The way in which Rajeshwari has taken the story forward is very soothing and helps the reader to gel with it nicely. Also, the characterisation is appealing and you can create the characters of that era in your mind.
In the second half of the book, the plot becomes very tempting and highly interesting. The urge to read and unfold the mysteries and truth will make it hard for you to keep the book aside for a single minute.
Overall, I would like to recommend this book to all the history and mystery lovers, the book is a must read. It will take you on a fantasy ride of emotions and interesting facts. All the best to Rajeshwari and I wish to read her future works.
