INTERVIEW

Q. Characterize yourself in one word?

If I want to characterise myself in one word as a writer then that would be a diligent lady.

Q. Please describe what the story/book is about in one sentence.

The central idea of my book - The Mysterious Widows Of Mehboobpura is a woman’s struggle, all alone to save herself and a community from some diabolical people showcasing good always wins over evil.

Q. Briefly, what led up to this book? What were you writing (and getting published, if applicable) before breaking out with this book?

I always loved writing poems and articles since childhood, but had always written for myself and had never published. Later I had a blog and had started posting poems and short stories. As an English language teacher also, I always prepared children for debates and other things, wrote for the school magazine.

I had started this story as a short story when it got converted into a novel I myself did not realise for a long time.

Q. What has been your biggest achievement?

I already had a blog as I have mentioned, so I was writing regularly on it. Although I had never thought that I would publish a novel, so the publishing a novel and the immense appreciation for it from people is my biggest achievement.

Q. Looking back, what did you do right that helped you break in?

The right thing that I did would be not giving up, not putting down the pen. Even after being married, working and with two kids, I didn’t give up to the familial pressures and kept on writing and then showed nerve to give the manuscript to the publishers.

Q. Did you have a platform in place? On this topic, what are you doing to build a platform and gain readership?

Actually, I am not doing much, I feel, I am not those who are into aggressive publicity. Right now it is more of word of mouth publicity. I am banking on my readers who would spread the word and the book will do well.

Q. Favorite novel?

My all-time favourite novels are: The hungry tide by Amitav Ghosh Gone with the wind by Margaret Mitchell The kite runner by Khalid Housseini

Q. Something personal about you people may be surprised to know?

To tell the truth, my life is an open secret, I have hardly hidden anything but for my readers, I can say. Life throws many opportunities, opens many avenues and also makes us think and perceive things in a different manner at different milestones. I am an economics graduate. As a teenager, I wanted to pursue a career in sports as I played many sports like gymnastics, basketball, kayaking. But further in life, I took up English literature and started writing, which is giving me such satisfaction and a high that I am now totally immersed in it.

Q. Future of SALISMANIA.com through your eyes?

Salismania.com is such a great platform for budding authors, it is giving them fantastic coverage. it has a great readership. Sky is the limit for Salismania and I am sure it will achieve greater heights.
